Reading ...

I finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns on the weekend ... it was the quickest I have read a book in ages ... it was very good.

I think I liked it slightly more than the Kite Runner but I loved them both.

The author writes so well and his books make you want to keep reading as you are never quite sure where the story is going to go next. Both books have that awful part of the story in them that you keep thinking about after you have read that part of the book.

I hope he has some more novels coming!

I decided to go for a lighter style of  read next.

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand

I have had this book on the bedside table for a little while. I think it will be a good read.

I should get back to reading the Cookie Club but the story line is quite difficult to follow as there are so many characters in the book.

A lovely Sunday afternoon ...

Today we spent the afternoon over the road on the farm. The idea was to start chopping firewood.

For a little while it didn't look like we were going to achieve that but in the end we got a bit done!

We took the Weber Q and cooked a few sausages for lunch after a little bit of yummy cheese and biscuits!

Hannah, Lachlan and Jack had a go at taking a few photos!

Yes John and Rohan were there too but didn't manage any decent photos!!

Will add them if I change my mind!

One eyed supporters ...

The boys now all have their full outfits ... they usually suddenly decide that there is a game on in the back or front yard and off they go ... looking for their socks, shorts, guernseys, boots ... oh and most importantly a football!!

A few recent photos of Hannah ...

So I did a little cooking with Hannah last week ...

I have to confess to not being a big "cooking with kids" sort of person, mainly because there is usually more than one and then the fighting starts, but with just Hannah it was good. And she has learnt some great "techniques" from Granny, like how to get the mixture off the spoon into the patty pan ...

whoops ... that was the wrong photo ... I don't think she learnt that from Granny ... I think that is an "in-built kid thing"!!

Then today I learnt how to do a collage in Photoshop after seeing a clip on Karen's blog ... and I could do it ... whoo hoo!!
Just have to work out how to get rid of the blank space for blog posting ... it was okay when I printed it out and trimmed it!!

Reading ...

Last night I finished The Kite Runner ... wow I really enjoyed reading this one.

I thought it was very well written and not at all predictable. Also a fascinating insight into another culture.

I had borrowed it from a friend.

I am usually one to buy books but as I wasn't sure when I would be next near a book selling shop  I decided to venture to our local library this afternoon to see if they had the author's other book, "A Thousand Splendid Suns" ... yay they did so I plan on starting that soon ... maybe tonight.

The librarian said they had the DVD of The Kite Runner but I decided that I think I would be disappointed in the movie after reading such a detailed book.

I think maybe watching the movie first in this case would have been better.

I would love to hear any comments on the movie from anyone who has watched it.

Our day ...

This afternoon, after a lazy morning and bacon and eggs, we headed out to the Pedler's farm ,where they are camping out with another family, to enjoy the afternoon.

They have the most amazing secret set up with a long drop toilet, a shed, creek bed, rope swings and their camper trailers, 4 wheeler motor bikes, camp fire ring ... so well set up!

Hannah enjoyed the rope swings ...

The boys had fun on the four wheelers ...

Lachlan with marshmellow residue ...

a lot of marshmellow fun ...

So much fun for everyone!
