Hannah's birthday ...

Well I failed miserably on a number of fronts ...

the cake was terrible. I used a recipe of a very well known Australian chef / cookbook author (many cookbooks) and I am sure the cooking time was way too long as it was very dry!! I am so tempted to try making it again but cooking for much less time to see what happens.

then when it was time to do the cake / happy birthday ... the battery was completely flat in my camera ... eeekkk ... it was fine in the morning ( 2 out of 3 bars showing) ... so cross ... luckily my s-i-l had her camera ready to go. Just need to get the images from her now!

Oh well I think Hannah had a fun day and everyone else!!

In the dress I bought her ... she left it on for 2 days!! Oh and the sunnies!!

Happy birthday darling girl ...

Three years ago today our little girl Hannah was born - there was great excitiment, especially as I was sure we were having a boy (well after 3 boys what would you expect!!).

Two of her proud brothers - they look so little!!

At Easter this year ...

She loves dancing, lipstick, anything pink, "her daddy" and "her mummy", the "piPod", Fairies and wearing skirts and dresses (really never wears jeans lately).

We are having a small party today with her little friends!! Better go and get organised!

Girly whirly woo ...

Started this one 3 weeks ago but this afternoon was my first chance to get it finished.

3 of 4 ...

Did this one 3 weeks ago but my camera was taking "speckled" photos so a little bit of gentle cleaning and here we go!

So what has been happening ...

Friday night ... we went to a dinner with two speakers ... Darren Leahman and Wayne Phillips (cricketers) ... very funny and had a great night!

Saturday ... Football Grand Final ... the A reserves netball team won and unfortunately the A grade football lost.

Sunday ... football and netball windup ... Jack & Lachlan got their minis medals (Lachlan's first year) so they were excited and Rohan got a Mars Bar for his first year of mini minis!!

Monday ... worked with my lovely new colleague!!

Tuesday ... taught a class at The Shabby Chic Shack at Lock (The recipe box shown here previously)

Wednesday ... worked with another girl observing (she has nearly finished her enrolled nursing training, lovely girl, so another good day at work!).

Thursday ... not sure yet!!

Quote of the day ...
Hannah asked me if I could put a DVD on (Cat in the Hat - for some reason I don't like that one!!) and I said "no not at the moment".
She said "I'll ask my daddy"!!!

She often refers to "her daddy" like he is no one else's Daddy (her 3 poor brothers miss out!).

If she sees John's ute coming up the drive she gets very excited and says very loudly "My daddy's coming!!".

We were in the supermarket in PL recently and she asked me what "her daddy" was doing and then went on to ask what Rohan's daddy was doing ... luckily no one overheard her!! I did try and quietly explain that he was the same person!!

And she is 3 on Sunday ...
"What do you want for your birthday Hannah?"
Answer: "A pink cake" and "a pink pi-pod"... yes she wants a pink iPod ... no such luck unfortunately darling!!

Photos from today ...

I really don't like having my photo taken but I am a believer in letting the kids use the camera, very carefully!! So I let them take a few this afternoon. Rohan had me laughing as he was pointing the camera all over the place and I was trying to "chase" the lens pointing direction!!

Oh and yes the lawn needs to be mown but I thought it worked quite well for the photos!

;-)

The boys today ...

obviously think it is summer ... they got home from school and a little later were calling out to me to come to the trampoline ... where they had put their bathers on and the sprinkler on ...

Oh dear it might be a long summer!!! And it will be warmer tomorrow!!

Current crop ...

This year we have a bumper crop of brocolli!

Six seedlings were planted and one struggled. I have just cut the third "head" off and the first one has shot some more broccoli off!!

Luckily it's not just John and me that like it - Lachlan loves it!!
I am not so sure about the brussel sprouts though - they were planted ages ago and we are yet to see much resembling a brussel sprout!! We'll keep waiting!
As I walked back to the office I saw this - sage flowering, such a pretty herb!
I hardly ever used it as I herb - I love the flowers more!!

The cake ...

Forgot to post a photo of Jack's cake!

He asked for St Kilda colours - his current football team.

I used a "packet" vanilla icing (Betty Crocker I think) and coloured some of it to red and added black lines with a tube of black icing - the finished result looked more like a Spiderman cake but hey it was the right colours!!

The next cake challenge is for Hannah's birthday - she has requested a pink cake - so I'm thinking a butter cake coloured with cochineal and then pink icing!!

Father's Day ...

With the very emotional time that we have had over the last week with the very tragic death of a friend we hadn't planned anything for Father's Day.
But this morning we got up and had a talk about it and decided that we should do something so I rang up and made a booking at the Port Lincoln Hotel for lunch.

We rang and arranged for Matthew Q to come with us and off we went.

Very Gene Symons ... hey!!!

We had a lovely lunch and then headed for a playground with some icecreams and a cricket bat and ball.

An enjoyable day for us all.

Cricket action ...

Yes ... he got a new cricket bat and "whites" for his birthday.

Hopefully in a few months he will be hitting the turf with the Scorpions!!! LOL!!!

The party bags ...

Today ...

this little boy turned 8!!!
Jack is pictured here in the wash tub at our house when he was about 6 months old (I think)!!
It is the earliest photo I have on the computer (in the days of film cameras!!).
Tonight he has had 3 mates come home on the school bus and they are staying for a sleep over!
At the moment they are all out playing cricket!!
Oh and our beautiful pergola has now turned into a cricket arena ... if you don't mind!!!
